Volunteer to help with Reading at The Vale

Following the success last year of parents/carers volunteering to support the children with their reading, we would like to continue with this opportunity this year.

All An opportunity to meet your child’s class teacher and discuss the year/ any concerns/ questions you may have.
EYFS Maths and Phonics 12th Sept 3.30 Reception An opportunity to take part in a maths and phonics workshop. This will explain how we will teach maths and phonics during your child’s Reception year.
Phonics meeting 14th Sept 3.30 Year 1 A chance to meet with the Year 1 teachers and find out how synthetic phonics are taught at The Vale and how you can support early reading and writing at home.
SATs meeting 19th Sept 3.30 Year 2 Meet with the Year 2 staff to get all the latest information on the tests which will take place in the summer term and how we will support the children’s achievement throughout the year.
Story Sharing coffee shop 21st Sept 3.00 All An opportunity for parents and children to come in and read together and share a drink and some biscuits. This is the opening event for our Year of Reading.
SATs meeting 22nd Sept 3.30 Year 6 An opportunity for parents with pupils in Year 6 to find out about SATs and gain information about the new testing procedures.
Maths workshop for parents 27th Sept 3.30 Year 1 A workshop for parents and carers to find out how numeracy is taught in Year 1. A great opportunity to try out different resources and games that support learning at home and at school.
Celebration assembly 21st October 8.50am Invitees At the end of each half term we celebrate the more formal achievements of the children. Parents of those receiving the awards are invited to join us.
HALF TERM
Sleepover at Hogwarts 9th November 3pm to 4.00pm A celebration of all things Harry Potter, as we read together, watch the first Harry Potter film and celebrate reading
Bring a relative to school 10th November 10.30 to 11.40am All This an opportunity for any relatives of children at our school to come and join us in their child’s classroom to have creative fun
Performing Arts evening 24th November 7.00pm to 8.00pm All A showcase of dance, drama and music
Open classroom 28th November 3.30 to 4.15pm All An informal opportunity for parents and carers to come and look at the work their children have been doing and to talk with their child’s form tutor
Christmas Fayre 2nd December 3.00 to 5.00pm All Fundraising event for the children by the children
KS2 Christmas show 8th December 2pm to 3pm Years 3,4,

Watch your child perform their Christmas show stopper.
