Primary School Raises Hundreds of Pounds for Macmillan
Pupils, parents and teachers at The Vale Academy on Wilbury Drive in Dunstable held a Macmillan Coffee Afternoon and raised an impressive £344.28 for the charity.
The Mayor of Dunstable came along to the event, held on 28 September, with all the cakes and biscuits donated by pupils and parents.
Academy Principal Rebekah Howe said: “We had a fantastic afternoon. There’s a real community spirit blossoming at Vale – we’re like a big happy family. I’m really proud of the collaboration between the pupils, families, staff and the local community, and of course delighted that we raised so much for Macmillan at the same time”.
The event was organised by the newly appointed Academy Pupil Council, along with Vice Principal Kate Hooft and Sarah Cameron.
Mrs Howe added: “The coffee afternoon was also covered by our own news team, TVAN – an enthusiastic team of young reporters from years 6,7 and 8. They made sure we all knew just how much money we’d raised and helped write this article too!”
